Introducing our New Blog Series – Feature Friday!

blog series

Here at Work Webb, our directories contain some talented professionals, and we are starting a blog series to highlight them. Our inaugural post is about Shawn E. Brown Insurance.

Shawn E. Brown Insurance is an Independent Insurance Brokerage servicing all of Florida, with satellite offices in Melbourne and Daytona Beach’s beautiful downtown district. They work with over 40 insurance carriers, offering services for Health Insurance, Medicare Advantage and Supplement Plans, Life Insurance, Group Health Insurance, Vision, and Dental Plans. There is never a consultation fee; their services are zero cost to their clients.

Shawn grew up in Detroit, Michigan, until he was thirteen years old when he moved to Port Orange, Florida. A fun fact about Shawn is he is afraid of heights but loves to SkyDrive, and we admire that he can overcome his fears to enjoy such daredevil sports. Speaking of sports – he may not currently live in Detroit, but he loves their sports. However, his passion extends past sports and Michigan football to include his family, clients, and agency.

Shawn was referred to Work Webb about seven years ago by a friend. “Work Webb has been a consistent and enjoyable experience ever since,” exclaims Shawn. “My clients, staff, and I appreciate the partnership.”

Shawn, we thank you for choosing Work Webb for your office needs and volunteering to be our first featured tenant in our new blog series. To learn more about Shawn E. Brown Insurance, you can call them at 386-866-1090 or visit their website.

Location is Critical When Choosing an Office

location

The old saying, “It’s all about location, location, location,” is true and applies when looking for a flexible office space for your business needs. As we have discussed in previous blog posts, the options provided by the shared office solution need to fit your needs, but the location of the space is just as critical. We recommend taking the time to write down your “must-have” list of location requirements, then research to see what office space fits both your location requirements and your “must-have” office options.
Here are some helpful tips to get you started on your “Must Have List.”

Convenient

Your office location needs to close to what you need to conduct business. For example, if you need to be near the courthouse, it doesn’t’ make sense to rent a space across town away from the courts. On the other hand, you want to be located in an area convenient for your clients. But it is not all about your clients; consider the commute from your home and determine the maximum time you want to drive to work.

Dedicated Parking

Nothing is more frustrating than a client arriving at an office building for a meeting and then not finding parking. After the client drives around finding parking, they are frustrated and possibly late for the meeting setting a negative tone. Avoid this by choosing a shared office solution with plenty of decided parking, so this is not a problem.

Close to Restaurants

Grabbing a quick lunch is not possible if your office space is not near any restaurants, so make sure you consider this when choosing a office space.

Safe Area

Choosing a safe area seems obvious that it should not have to be listed, but what is safe for one person may not be the same for your clients. Visit the areas you are considering leasing space at various times of the day to ensure it is a safe area. Early morning meetings might happen, and if your office is a little sketchy before the sun comes up, clients will not feel comfortable or safe.

Nice view

This one is a little unfair because not every office is lucky enough to be in sunny Florida, but hey, we are, and it’s a plus that we can advertise gorgeous views from some of our office options. Nothing beats a great view from your desk and if this is important to you (like it is for us), add it to the list.

The location of your office needs to meet your professional and personal requirements. Create your list using these tips and take a tour of the facilities you are considering to see how many check off your requirements.  If you are looking for flexible office space in the Daytona Beach or Melbourne, Florida area, visit our website to see our options and location. Then call us to schedule a tour, and remember to bring your list.

What to Look for in a Shared Office Solution

shared office solution

It’s been over a year since the massive wave of employees working from home.  Are you losing your focus and mind yet? The answer to this question from lots of individuals is a resounding YES!  People miss the socialization of talking to coworkers in person; the ritual of driving to work, listening to music, and working from home does not meet these needs. Your home may not have the space to provide a productive environment away from distractions, but fear not, there is an answer. That answer is a shared office solution like Work Webb.

A shared office solution can be the answer to your lonely working from home heart. But before you go and get yourself a membership, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to make sure you find a shared office solution to meet your individual needs:

Location

As they say, it all about location, location, location, and this pertains to choosing the right shared office solution for your needs. Your temp office space should be centrally located around restaurants and public parking. If you need to be around restaurants, courthouses, or close to home, make sure you consider this before you select your shared office solution.

Community

Each shared work-space is unique, and so is its community. Are you a good fit for the community? Can you see yourself working around the people there? You should tour the space and even try it for a day before committing to a membership.

Budget

Find a space that has plans to fit your budget and individual needs. Will you go to the office every day or on an as-needed basis? If this is what you are looking for, make sure you find a place with this option.

Internet

Although we all think fast-internet is a given, it might not be, so you need to think about the service provider to make sure it will be enough to fit your needs.

Amenities

Do they offer coffee, tea, printing, meeting room usage, etc. Look at the perks they offer and decide whether it’s something you value.

Conference rooms

If you need to have access to a conference room, make sure your shared office solution has enough rooms.

Membership options

Your needs might change as time moves forward, so ensure the space is flexible enough to upgrade or downgrade your membership accordingly.

On-site manager

Is there someone in charge making sure that things run smoothly in the space? Having a staff member on-site may sound like a small thing, but it is critical if you run into problems.

Health & Safety Protocols

A work-space should make you feel healthier, not unhealthier. Make sure you ask about the health and safety protocols to make sure they fit your expectations.

Work Webb has two locations (Daytona Beach and Melbourne, Florida) with many options to choose from and meet most individuals’ needs looking for a shared office solution. Visit our website to see what our clients have to say, follow us on Facebook, and call us today to schedule a tour. We look forward to hearing from you and having you join the directory at one of our locations.

New Location – Historic Downtown Melbourne Florida

If you are following us on social media, you may have seen some posts about our new location in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Florida. This location officially opens this Friday, February 1st, and we are incredibly excited about this new venture for several reasons.

We are a Family Business.

One of our own will be running the day to day of Work Webb Melbourne. Our eldest daughter, Kady Webb is moving to Melbourne and joining the Work Webb team as the office manager of the Melbourne location. She recently graduated from college and is very excited about being a part of the family business, and so are we!

Historic Downtown Melbourne

Another Historic Downtown

We love the historic feel of our Daytona Beach office, and that environment continues to our new location. Historic Downtown Melbourne is a charming part of the city with a history that dates to the 1800s. In recent years it has become the destination for locals and travelers, alike, who are looking for a quaint and historic town for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The downtown has a packed event calendar, and we are excited to feature them in our What’s Happening Around Work Webb blog series. Sign up to learn about these events hosted in Melbourne on our website blog.

A Great Building

We love our Kress Building, and our new location is just as charming. Work Webb Melbourne is located in a  fully renovated 120-year-old former hardware and farm supply store. The office décor has an industrial feel and is very welcoming. Here are some photos:

Surrounded by Great Food

There are some fantastic restaurants new our Melbourne office.  Hell n Blazes is a place that we have frequently visited. They are a family-and-friends microbrewery known for traditional brews as well as the adventurous spirit that defines craft beer. Their website boasts, “Consistently pouring 12-18 unique house beers, with a 25-bottle wine list, the taproom pairs the old Florida lifestyle with the comfort of your own living room!”

There is also a wine and art gallery, The Living Room and Pan-Asian eatery called Mangetsu located in Historic Downtown Melbourne. As we try out more of the restaurants, we will post about them on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest) as well as our blog. The Facebook page for Melbourne Main Street is a good source of information too, follow them here to learn more.

2019 has started with a bang of excitement!

Challenges of Working from Home in the Summer

Working from Home in the Summer

It’s summer and the kids are out of school.  Working from home during the summer can present a challenge. If this is your first summer working from home, you may not know what to expect for the next three months.  Let me enlighten you on what I have heard from clients that I only see here at Work Webb during the summer months.

Interruptions Are Constant

Older children that handled being home alone while you worked in a traditional office last summer will completely regress to needy toddlers now that you are working from home.   They will not be able to find anything, do anything without asking you for help.  Why you ask?  Because they know you are there to help them and answer their questions.  You will stop work to find the TV remote, Play Station controller and any number of meaningless tasks your children just can’t seem to do without you.

Family Visits

Now that you no longer have a traditional job, your extended family may think they can come to visit for extended stays.  Honestly, if they catch you off guard you may not have a quick answer as to why they can’t come for a visit.  Then you are stuck with family coming especially if you live in a desired area like Florida. Your office may be lost to your teenage nephew that likes to sleep the morning away and – POOF – there goes your productivity.  In addition, if you are a good host, your in-laws might expect home cooked meals every night because after all you are home.  Don’t’ forget since you are home, odds are you still do laundry, etc., so these tasks just doubled for you. All that does is eat up precious hours that should be used to get your work done.

Parental Guilt

Since you ARE working from home and this is your first summer with the kids, you might feel compelled to be the super parent.  Trips to bowling alley, movies or to the beach may eat up your daylight hours which means you will burn the midnight oil or get up with the birds to get your work completed.  In short – you will work twice as hard the next few months.  Trust me.

Taxi Services

A common complaint I hear from my summer clients is they become a taxi service for the children and their children’s friends.  After all you are home – and your children will volunteer your services without asking.  Your productivity and gas tank will bottom out fast.

Avoid these pitfalls of summer by finding a shared office solution near you.  If you are close to the Daytona Beach or Melbourne, Florida area, visit Work Webb’s website to see what we can offer you besides a quiet place to work.

Changing History By Doing The Right Thing

jackie-robinson-9460813-1-402Doing the right thing, no matter how small, can have a huge impact for years to come and help change history. That is the case with the decision to let a Jackie Robinson play baseball on a field located here in Daytona Beach, Florida. That one action assisted a chain of events that helped break down the segregation wall in baseball. This one small act assisted a great athlete to have a fantastic career, become active in the civil rights movement and start a foundation that still supports the community today.

The ballpark in downtown Daytona Beach is not just a great place to watch the Tortugas – it’s on the National Register of Historic Places for being the first Florida city to allow Jackie Robinson to play during the 1946’s spring training season. Robinson was playing for the Triple-A Montreal Royals, who were in Florida to play an exhibition game against their parent club, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Both Jacksonville and Sanford refused to allow the game due to segregation laws. Daytona Beach permitted the game, which was played on March 17, 1946. This contributed to Robinson breaking the Major Leagues’ color barrier the following year when he joined the Dodgers. It also started a change locally. The refusal by Jacksonville, previously the Dodgers’ spring training home, led the team to host spring training in Daytona in 1947 and build Dodgertown in Vero Beach for the 1948 season. The park located here in Daytona Beach was renamed Jackie Robinson Ballpark in 1989 as the stadium served as host to the first racially integrated game in baseball history. On October 22, 1998, the stadium was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places.

During Jackie Robinson’s baseball career, he overcame unimaginable bigotry and was named Rookie of the Year (1947), Most Valuable Player (1949) and won a World Series title (1955). His .311 batting average, 197 stolen bases and six All-Star game appearances ensured his enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. The father of three continued to push for equality outside of baseball through his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, a leadership position within the NAACP, as an executive for Chock Full O’ Nuts, and through his help in establishing the Freedom National Bank. Jackie Robinson died on October 24, 1972 at the age of 53.

His legacy continues to impact society to this day. The Jackie Robinson Foundation founded in 1973 by his wife Rachel Robinson provides grants and mentoring services for college awarded to minority students. Read more about this great civil rights hero and his foundation here.

Work Webb is located near this historic location and I personally love the history behind the ball park. Support your Tortugas and be proud of the role Daytona Beach, Florida played in ending segregation in baseball. You can see the Tortuga schedule and purchase tickets here.

Why Shared Office Solutions Is Catching On

IMG_0701

I let people borrow stuff all the time.  Picture Frames?  Sure. I have many.  Dancer Dust?  Sure because really, no meal is complete without some Dancer Dust.  Office Space – Why yes!  We have expanded our space in the Kress building so we can accommodate the growing trend of “borrowing” office space or providing shared office solutions.  I see more and more articles online on how shared office solutions is a growing trend.  It’s refreshing to know we were ahead of the game when we started #WorkWebb.

If you have not considered the option of shared office space as a solution for your business, here is a list of why you need to:

3 Ways Renting Full or Part Time at a Shared Office Space Can Save You Money and a Whole Lot of Stress

Increase Your Profit and Decrease Your Stress: Rent or Lease a Full or Part Time, Fully Furnished, Private, Semi-Private, or Shared Co-Working Office in Your Area

Renting or leasing an office is expensive: There’s first and last month’s rent; you’ll have to buy office equipment and furniture; supplies, a printer, fax (do people use those anymore?), copy paper, coffee, water bottles, snacks, tissues, toilet paper – the list could go on and on. What gives?

How can you get your business off the ground when all of your start-up money is going to filing cabinets, Internet hookups, and that dreaded cartridge of ink that’s worth its weight in gold? Well, there’s an affordable office rental solution which is trending that can take care of all those things for you. Renting or leasing an office in a shared workplace atmosphere will benefit not only your business and profit, but your peace of mind as well.

Here are 3 ways you can save money (and a whole lot of time and energy) renting a shared workspace or a private or semi-private full or part time office space at a business incubator or co-working office with multiple office or meeting space rental options to suit your particular needs:

1. Renting an office costs much less when you choose to do your work in a co-working atmosphere or shared workspace.

We're lucky enough to call the offices of the historic Kress building in Daytona Beach, FL home.

We’re lucky enough to call the offices of the historic Kress building in Daytona Beach, FL home.

Renting or leasing a quality workspace in a quality area is expensive. Renting a full or part-time office in a shared work environment allows you to drastically cut the cost of a worthwhile office rental. You’ll also be surprised by the benefits that come along with the natural networking you’ll engage in amongst other businesses and professionals that also have an office in your building or on your floor. Remember that a shared office will have real estate in “choice” areas of your city or a main downtown area that you otherwise may not be able to afford office space in on your own. Say goodbye to the days of giving sketchy or confusing directions to your clients, no more ruining your business reputation with coffee shop meetings, you can now afford an office in the most notable buildings in your area provided they have a shared workspace.

 2. You don’t have to worry about buying a bunch of office furniture.

Fully furnished means exactly that. From waiting areas, to meeting rooms, chairs and desks: shared workspaces have it all.

Fully furnished means exactly that: From waiting areas, to meeting rooms, chairs and desks: shared workspaces have it all.

A fully furnished office rental is a guarantee when you rent office space in a shared workplace or business incubator. When you rent or lease your own office by yourself, the costs of the deposit and rent are just the beginning. Then you have to worry about finding an office chair, work desk, supplies, filing cabinets, wall art, plants (you really should keep live plants in your office), decorations, soap, a coat or umbrella rack (we live in Florida after all), a trash can or two, toilet paper, water, the list goes on…

3. Coffee, snacks, supplies, paper, and even free meeting and conference room rentals at a shared office environment give you everything you need for even your busiest workday – saving you time and money.

Why spend time and money stocking up your office snack area when someone could do it for you?

Why spend time and money stocking up your office snack area when someone could do it for you? Workplace win!

Any virtual, remote, or shared workspace will have the proper office supplies you need to keep your workday running smoothly – whether it’s that extra cup of coffee, a hit of protein or sugar to keep you going, a professional meeting space or presentation area to impress your clients and colleagues, or a printer, copy, fax machine to get your documents in order and professionally delivered.

Bonus! When you rent a place of work in a happening part of town, the rates are lower at a shared office space, and you get all the amenities and benefits of working in an office on a main street or in a busy section of town (way better than renting an office off of the beaten path!). You’ll really dig the after-work outings and office lunch break options that you get when you rent a workspace in a happening area of your city.

Many businesses and professional tenants are benefiting from shared office solutions. Visit Work Webb on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ for more office tips and workplace advice.
